Maintain Eye Contact

When presenting to an audience or in a meeting, remember to maintain eye contact. Too many times I see presenters speaking to their slides and not with their audience. This immediately disconnects you, breaks you off from the very people you are trying to connect with, inform, sell to, and/or persuade. Your slides are not here to learn from you, they cannot be inspired by your dazzling eyes and words, but your audience can, so talk to them!

When you are rehearsing your presentation practice looking around the room. Pretend there is an audience in front of you. This will help you build muscle memory and train you to scan the room when you are speaking with a live audience.

Your slides are there to enhance your message and you should know what’s on them. Certainly you may reference them and interact with them, but the most important interaction you can have is with your audience.
